Gunners great doubts Wenger can win Champions League.Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has expressed a damning criticism of his former manager Arsene Wenger, hinting he doesn’t have the tactical nous to win the Champions League.

Speaking on the same day the Gunners thrashed Galatasaray 4-1 in the Champions League, Parlour spoke about his old club’s credentials in the competition, though he was not optimistic about their chances for the season ahead, or indeed anytime in the future while Wenger is still in charge of the team.
Arsenal’s record in the competition is fairly poor, with the club only reaching the final once, when they lost 2-1 to Barcelona back in 2006, with just one further semi-final appearance since then.
Wenger’s side have been eliminated by Bayern Munich for two years in a row now, and Parlour believes they look some way off getting to the German giants’ level, or to that of Real Madrid, who won it last season for the tenth time in their history.
Parlour feels Wenger is too rigid tactically to adapt to different opposition in the Champions League, and feels that ability to grind out a result away from home will always work against them.
“To be honest I don’t think Arsenal are good enough to challenge the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona or maybe Bayern Munich. That’s what levels they’ve got to get to,” he said.
“If you look at Jose Mourinho he can set up teams and make them really hard to beat and they can always nick a goal on the break. Maybe Arsene Wenger hasn’t got that style, maybe he hasn’t got that plan B. I don’t think he’s going to change now which might be a problem.”
